GO Taxi Not Working? Common Errors and How to Fix Them

Common Problems and How to Fix Them

When your GO taxi does not show up, or the app cannot find you a car at all, the two basic fixes are switching to AI Reservation (GO's advance-booking feature) and rethinking your pickup spot. Here is an overview of the problems that most often crop up when hailing, and what to do about each.

The app cannot find a car: At peak times and in high-demand areas, matching can take a while. Use AI Reservation and you can lock in a car even during rush periods. Moving your pickup spot to a main road can also make matching easier.

The driver cannot find your pickup spot: If your pickup pin is imprecise, drivers can get lost. Use the pickup notes field to share a landmark; naming a building or an intersection makes the meetup go smoothly.

The upfront fare and the actual charge differ: If you selected the fixed upfront fare, the amount shown is the final, binding fare. If you chose the standard fare, it runs on the meter and shifts with traffic. Double-check which one you picked when requesting the ride.

Fixing App Glitches

  • The app will not launch: Update to the latest version and restart your device
  • Your location is wrong: Confirm that your device's location services are on. GPS accuracy drops inside buildings
  • A coupon will not apply: Check the coupon's expiration date and conditions. Coupons restricted to GO Pay (the app's in-app payment) cannot be used when paying cash in the car
  • GO Pay payment errors: Review the card on file and check for an expired card or insufficient balance

If none of that resolves the issue, uninstalling and reinstalling the app sometimes clears it up. Just make a note of your account details (your phone number) before you reinstall.

Preventing Problems Before They Happen

Most trouble can be headed off with a little preparation. First, keep the app updated: old versions are more glitch-prone and miss out on new features. Second, register more than one payment method in GO Pay. If your main card fails, a backup card keeps the payment moving.

Choosing your pickup spot carefully is another strong preventive step. In an unfamiliar area, pick somewhere a driver can easily spot, such as along a main road or in front of a convenience store. Add a landmark in the pickup notes and you all but eliminate meetup mix-ups.

How to Contact Support

You can report ride problems from the Help section inside the app. Pick the ride in question from your ride history, choose the type of issue, and your report goes to the support team. Email inquiries are supported as well.

When you reach out, include the ride's date and time, the pickup location, and as many specifics as you can; it speeds up the response. Attaching screenshots helps even more. Support typically replies within 1 to 2 business days. With these basics covered, you can lean on the service with confidence.

Cancellation Rules and Etiquette

With GO, you can cancel from the app any time before the driver arrives. Cancel after the driver has reached your pickup spot, though, and a cancellation fee may apply. The amount varies by taxi company, but 300 to 500 yen is typical. Be careful: frequent cancellations can affect your account standing and may get your matching restricted.

If you must cancel, doing it as early as possible is simple good manners. While the driver is still on the way, cancellation is often free. If your plans change, cancel promptly before the driver arrives. AI Reservations can likewise be cancelled free of charge up to a set time before the booking. The full cancellation policy is in the app's Help section.
