Making the Most of LUUP on Weekends and Holidays

For weekend sightseeing, LUUP's shared e-scooters are close to the ideal way to get around. Those awkward 1 to 3 km hops between spots, too far to walk yet too short to justify a taxi, become a breeze with the wind in your face. Feeling the atmosphere of a neighborhood as you glide through it is a pleasure unique to the e-scooter; trains and buses simply cannot offer that sense of riding through the city, and it turns a weekend outing into something a little special.

Sightseeing usually means wanting to cover several spots efficiently. With LUUP, each leg between attractions shrinks to around 5 to 10 minutes, dramatically increasing how much you can see in a day. Museum to cafe, cafe to park: you are free to string together an itinerary entirely of your own design.

For weekend sightseeing, check the ports (LUUP's parking docks) along your route in advance. Tourist districts tend to be well covered, but knowing where you will return the vehicle makes the whole plan run smoothly. Scout the ports around each destination on the app's map beforehand.

If you would love a holiday bike ride but do not own a bicycle, or worry about your stamina, LUUP is the perfect substitute. The electric motor flattens every hill, so you can cover long distances while saving your legs. Feeling the breeze without breaking a sweat is the e-scooter's great advantage over pedaling.

Pick a scenic course, a riverside promenade or a coastal road, and the ride itself becomes the leisure activity. Unlike a bicycle there is no preparation or maintenance; find a vehicle in the app and go. That lightness, deciding on a whim on a holiday morning and being out the door minutes later, is the special strength of a sharing service.

One absolute rule: if the event involves drinking, do not ride a LUUP, full stop. Riding under the influence is strictly prohibited by Japanese law, and e-scooters are no exception. If alcohol is on the agenda, arrange public transport or a taxi for the way home in advance.

Japanese cities are dotted with parks, but on foot you can realistically visit only two or three in a day. With LUUP collapsing the travel time between them, five or six parks in a day becomes entirely possible. A park-hopping tour of seasonal flowers or autumn leaves, planned with a walking guidebook in hand, makes for a wonderfully full day off.

Park-hopping appeals to families too, with one caveat: LUUP requires riders to be 16 or older. One workable split is for an adult to scoot ahead and claim a picnic spot while the rest of the family follows by public transport. Pack the picnic gear into a backpack so both hands stay free and the ride stays safe.
