A feature that lets you monitor the status of a food delivery order in real time. It visualizes each stage - from order confirmation, cooking, partner pickup, in transit, to arrival - along with the delivery partner's current location on a map.
The Technology Behind Order Tracking
Order tracking works by capturing GPS data from the delivery partner's smartphone in real time and displaying it on a map within the customer's app. Location data is refreshed every few seconds to tens of seconds, showing the delivery partner's route and estimated time of arrival (ETA).
Order status typically progresses through 5-6 stages: "Confirming order - Preparing - Partner heading to restaurant - Food picked up - On the way - Arrived." Each status transition is triggered by actions from the restaurant (pressing the "ready" button) and the delivery partner (confirming pickup and delivery completion).
Tips for Using Order Tracking to Streamline Pickup
Using order tracking effectively can minimize your wait time. When you receive a notification that the delivery partner has picked up the food, head to your front door or building entrance 2-3 minutes before the estimated arrival. For apartment buildings, prepare to unlock the auto-lock and have the elevator ready in advance.
If the delivery is running late, check the tracking screen to see whether the partner is stuck in traffic or appears to be lost. If the movement looks clearly abnormal, use the in-app chat to contact the delivery partner, or reach out to customer support. Tracking data is retained for a period after delivery completion, so it can also serve as evidence in case of disputes.
